Tag Filtering

One of the core features of music4dance is the ability to filter the music catalog in different ways.  This allows you to narrow down your search as you look for music to dance to.

Clicking on any tag on the music4dance website will pop up a menu of options to help you refine your search.

Note: Music4Dance has been through a major upgrade since this documentation was written.  The general concepts on this page are still generally accurate.  But colors, icons and some specifics will differ from the live site.  Please contact us with specific questions or requests for updates.

tagDance Style tags are found primarily in the “Dances” column of the song lists.

Clicking on a dance style tag will pop up a list of options including the name of the song (A) that you clicked on, a link to  dance style page (B),  a link to filter the current list to only songs tagged as this dance style (C), a link to add dances of this style to the current filter (D) a link to start a new list of all of the songs that can be danced in this style (E), a link to this help page (F) and if there are tags specific to this dance style on this song those tags will be shown at the bottom (G).  Finally, if you don’t follow any of the links which will close this dialog, you can get back to where you started by clicking the close button (H).

tag-modal-annotatedClicking on a tag will pop up a list of filtering options.  The most complete list of options (depending on context these may not all be available) includes:

Two filters that start from the current list.  (A) Take the current list and trim it down to only the songs that are tagged with the new tag or (B) take the current list and trim it down to only the songs that aren’t tagged with the new tag.

Two filters that start from a new list of whatever the currently selected dance is and either (D) include only this songs tagged with the new tag or (E) include only the song that aren’t tagged with the new tag.

Two filters that start from a completely new list and either (F) show all of the songs tagged with the new tag or (G) show all the songs that aren’t tagged with the new tag.

(H) Takes you to this help page.

(I) Will close this list and take you back to the page you started at without modifying the filter.

Are you interested in adding your own tags?   All you have to do is create an account and start tagging.
